What do you want?

The mother of James and John kneeled before Jesus to ask for something to which Jesus responded, “What do you want?” I bet it’s interesting for Jesus to hear what we want; because it’s my experience it’s not what I really need or what I get. James and John were willing to do whatever it took to sit at the right and left of Jesus. “Are you willing to drink from the cup?” “You bet!” What they didn’t realize was that drinking from the cup was how they would be glorified, not sitting at Jesus’s right or left. The truth for James and John, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant”

When you are willing to do anything to get what you want, you must realize that the doing part may be all that God has called you to. As our King, Jesus was not honored as a king in his lifetime. But he completed the work that gave him the honor as the Eternal King.
